Soar Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Soar (the "Software") collects, uses, and protects your information. Our principles: collect only what is necessary to provide the features; never sell your data; no advertising.
1. Information we collect
- Account: email address and display name; passwords are stored only as strong hashes (argon2id) — we cannot see the plaintext.
- Course and study data: classroom subtitles and translations, terms, notes, uploaded materials, review records and learning progress.
- AI interaction data: your conversations with the AI assistant; the system automatically distills a short "study profile" from your recent conversations, used only to make the assistant understand you better and only within your own account.
- Essential technical data: login credentials (tokens) and minimal operational logs. Gateway access logging is disabled, and login tokens are never written to logs.
2. Classroom audio (special note)
When you use live-classroom features: microphone audio is transmitted to our servers over TLS encryption and recognized into text in memory, then immediately discarded. Raw audio is never written to disk and is not retained; what remains is the transcribed text and your notes.
3. Processors and data transfers
- Our servers run on Alibaba Cloud; speech recognition, translation, and AI capabilities are provided by Alibaba Cloud Tongyi (DashScope) services.
- Your audio and text are transmitted to those servers and service endpoints for processing, and may pass through the provider's automated content-safety inspection.
- If you use the Software outside the region where the servers are located, you consent to the cross-border data transfer necessary to provide the features.
- We never sell your personal data to any third party.
4. How data is used
To provide and improve the features themselves (transcription, translation, organization, review, assistant), for account and security protection (rate limiting, abuse prevention), and for de-identified aggregate statistics. Not for advertising.
5. Storage and security
TLS encryption throughout; passwords hashed with argon2id; AI service keys exist only on the server and are never shipped to the client; data access is isolated by per-course roles. A working copy also stays on your device and can be migrated via Export & Backup.
6. Retention and deletion
Data is retained until you delete it or close your account.
How to delete your account: go to Settings → Privacy & data → Delete account. You will be asked to re-enter your password. Once submitted, you are signed out on every device immediately; for 30 days you can cancel by signing in with your email and password, and the account returns to normal. After 30 days the data is erased permanently and cannot be recovered.
What deletion removes: your account and profile, AI conversations and learning memory, your submissions and review progress, materials you uploaded, and shares and comments you created.
Deletion does not remove other people's data: records belonging to others in classrooms you took part in are kept — for example, if you were a teacher, your students' submissions, grades, and learning records are theirs and do not disappear because you leave. Your name in those records will show as "Deleted user".
Some data cannot be deleted per user: certain content (for example the translation cache for a given textbook) is stored by content fingerprint and shared across all users, and the server never records which fingerprint belongs to whom. That design is more privacy-protective, at the cost that there is no "row belonging to one person" to delete. This data contains no account information and cannot be linked back to you.
7. Your rights
You may access, correct, export, or delete your data, and withdraw consent (which may affect the corresponding features). Exercise these rights in the app or by contacting us by email.
8. Minors
The Software is intended for users aged 14 and above; if you are under 14, use it only with a guardian's consent and accompaniment.
9. Changes to this policy
Updates will be announced in the app; material changes will be highlighted prominently.
