Soar Terms of Service

Welcome to Soar (the "Software"). These Terms are an agreement between you and the Soar team ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using the Software, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to these Terms and the Privacy Policy. During the beta, the Terms may be updated; material changes will be announced in the app.

1. What the Software does

Soar is a desktop application for classroom scenarios. It provides real-time transcription and translation of classroom speech, teaching-material management and lesson preparation, course notes and knowledge organization, spaced-repetition review, and an AI study assistant. The product is in beta; features and data structures may change.

2. Your account

• Register with a real email address and keep your password safe; actions taken under your account are considered yours.
• One account may hold different roles in different courses (teacher / student / self-created course); permissions are independent per course.
• Do not share your account or use it to circumvent usage limits.

3. Classroom recording and consent of participants (please read carefully)

• When you use live-classroom features (including "listen on site"), audio captured by your device microphone is streamed to our servers in real time for transcription and translation.
• Whoever initiates the capture is responsible for obtaining, in accordance with local law, the necessary consent of everyone being recorded (e.g. the lecturer and speaking classmates). Legal liability arising from recording without the required consent rests with the person who performed it.
• Our commitment regarding audio: raw audio is processed in real time only, is never written to disk, and is discarded when the session ends. Only the transcribed text (subtitles, terms, etc.) is kept as part of your course materials.

4. Your content and intellectual property

• Notes, documents, and slides you create belong to you. You grant us only the processing rights necessary to provide the features (storage, transcription, rendering, AI processing).
• Before uploading teaching materials or third-party content, make sure you have the right to use them; liability for infringing uploads rests with the uploader.
• AI-generated transcriptions, translations, and summaries may contain errors and are provided as study aids only; verify before using them elsewhere.
• The Software itself — its code, interface, and brand — remains our intellectual property.

5. Prohibited conduct

You must not: reverse-engineer the Software or scrape it without authorization; mass-register accounts or abuse the APIs with scripts; upload unlawful or infringing content; or interfere with the normal operation of the service.

6. Changes and interruptions of service

During the beta we work to keep the service available, but we do not promise uninterrupted or error-free operation; features may be added, changed, or removed. Material changes will be announced in the app in advance.

7. Disclaimer and limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law: the Software is provided "as is"; we are not liable for indirect losses arising from use of, or inability to use, the Software; transcriptions and translations do not constitute professional advice of any kind.

8. Termination

You may stop using the Software at any time and request account deletion (see the Privacy Policy). If you materially breach these Terms, we may suspend or terminate the service for you.

9. Changes to these Terms

Updated terms will be announced in the app; continuing to use the Software after an update takes effect constitutes acceptance.
